Sustainability Expo to Include Employers, Engaged Research Opportunities

This year’s Sustainability Expo is expanding significantly, and will include numerous non-profits and companies interested in recruiting Notre Dame students for internships and more.

“With the increasing interest in energy, environmental, and sustainability studies on campus, we want the Expo to help students figure out how they can put their interests to work professionally,” said Barb Villarosa of ND Energy, a lead organizer of the Expo for the last five years. “We’re excited to partner with the Center for Career Development for the first time to make that happen. At the same time, the Expo will continue to be an ideal place to connect with educational programs and campus research opportunities.”

“Our students have wide-ranging interests, and the employers participating in the Expo really reflect that,” said Carly Hubers, Program Coordinator in the Minor in Sustainability. “Examples include Be Green Packaging, enFocus, Shirley Heinze Land Trust, South Bend’s Office of Sustainability, and the Conservation Fund of Indiana."

The Expo will also highlight the many avenues open to students wishing to pursue academic programs and/or research on the environment. These include a variety of majors and minors as well as study abroad opportunities and immersion experiences. Faculty and graduate students from labs with research topics ranging from solar energy to arctic ecology will be on hand to talk with students seeking research assistantships.

A variety of refreshments will be served, including hot chocolate made to order using ND Energy’s famous smoothie bike.

The Sustainability Expo is open to all undergraduate and graduate students at Notre Dame, Saint Mary’s, and Holy Cross College. For more details and a full list of participants, visit the event site or email us.
