Uddhav Markad
Dr. Uddhav Markad earned his Ph.D. from Savitribai Phule Pune University, India. His research centers on the radiolytic synthesis, characterization, and immobilization of 3D palladium nanostructures as a reusable catalyst for chromium remediation. His innovative work has culminated in the development of highly recyclable Pd-loaded Pd-PES beads, a nanocatalyst revolutionizing industrial wastewater treatment. These beads significantly reduce Pd usage by 98% and other oxidizing materials by 97%.
Dr. Markad's expertise lies in industrial water remediation, utilizing radiation, photochemistry, and catalysis for environmental cleanup. Since joining ND-ECI in March 2024, he has been working with Dr. Kyle Doudrick as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Civil and Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences Department.
His current research focuses on the treatment of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in solid waste and drinking water. He is developing physical-chemical treatment technologies for emerging contaminants, particularly exploring Catalytic Membranes for Water Treatment. Alongside, Dr. Markad is also working on a technique for detecting and identifying micro- and nano-plastics in environmental samples and developing a sustainable method for separating micro- and nano-plastics (MNPs) from water sources and municipal solid waste.
