Dr. Rachel Gurney is an environmental sociologist with an interdisciplinary background in journalism, environmental science, and sociology. Her primary research has focused on climate adaptation and socio-political dynamics of climate change. She is interested in integrating social science climate research with climate impact science in order to identify and further understand key geographical areas of vulnerability within the US. The overarching objective of this research is to advance understanding of socio-political barriers and opportunities surrounding advancement of sub-national climate action through multidisciplinary research.
Dr. Gurney joins ND-ECI as a Postdoctoral Research Associate on ND-GAIN's Urban Adaptation Assessment conducting sociological research as well as dissemination, outreach and generation of publications under the mentorship of Dr. Patrick Regan.
